Self-Confidence — SSB Lecturette Speech Outline

SSB Lecturette practice illustration — candidate delivering a 3-minute speech at a lectern on the GTO ground to a semicircle of fellow candidates.

OLQ topic — show, do not shout. Use this outline under a 3-minute prep clock, then speak without reading.

Category: abstract · Format: 3 min prep + 3 min speech

Opening hook (~40 seconds)

Confidence is not a loud voice in the GD. It is still speaking after your first idea was shot down.

Body — three points (~90 seconds)

  1. It grows from preparation: one more PPDT, one more run, one fact you actually checked.
  2. Body language: eye contact, finished sentences, admitting “I do not know” without collapsing.
  3. Overconfidence is a different animal — it skips the map. Officers want the first, not the second.

Closing line (~50 seconds)

Borrow courage from your homework. That loan you can repay.

What to avoid

Do not use this speech to announce you are confident. Demonstrate structure.

Practise with the hub timer and the Lecturette GTO guide (3-3-3 structure, body language, chit selection).
