Money vs Happiness — SSB Lecturette Speech Outline

SSB Lecturette practice illustration — candidate delivering a 3-minute speech at a lectern on the GTO ground to a semicircle of fellow candidates.

A classic chit — land on balance, not a slogan. Use this outline under a 3-minute prep clock, then speak without reading.

Category: abstract · Format: 3 min prep + 3 min speech

Opening hook (~40 seconds)

Money pays the hospital bill. Happiness is who sits beside the bed. The trick is not choosing one and mocking the other.

Body — three points (~90 seconds)

  1. Enough money removes fear — food, rent, a parent’s medicine. Poverty is not romantic.
  2. Beyond a point, status spending does not buy peace. Comparison on social media steals both money and joy.
  3. A useful close: earn honestly, spend on health and relationships, and measure success by usefulness, not likes.

Closing line (~50 seconds)

Hunt enough money to be free — then hunt work that lets you sleep at night.

What to avoid

Do not sound anti-ambition or greedy. Officers manage resources; they do not worship them.

Practise with the hub timer and the Lecturette GTO guide (3-3-3 structure, body language, chit selection).
