PGT Extra — Narrow Gate and High Beam — How I’d Brief

SSB Command Task and Progressive Group Task briefing illustration — a candidate briefing two subordinates beside a painted outdoor obstacle.

A bonus PGT-style lane: 2-foot gate, high white beam, load will not fit unless rotated.

PGT · Full group · ~8 minutes

Obstacle

A 2-foot-wide white gate, then a high white beam (people can sit astride). Red side-nets. The drum is 2.5 feet in diameter — it will not pass the gate upright.

Colour reminders

  • Gate and beam white.
  • Side nets red.
  • Ground after the gate is white.

Helping material & load

  • Planks
  • Rope
  • Ballie
  • Tolvi

Load: Drum 2.5 ft diameter

What the GTO is waiting for

Mention the rotation of the load in the first 10 seconds of your brief — the GTO is listening for it.

A complete brief (for comparison)

Steal the structure — aim, resources, sequence, roles, colour, fallback — not these exact words on the ground.

  1. Aim: rotate the drum onto its side / use planks as rails through the gate, then beam as a sit-across.
  2. Resources: two planks as a rail; rope to stop the drum rolling into red nets.
  3. Sequence: rails first, drum, people, then beam one-by-one with a spotter.
  4. Roles: two rail setters, two drum, two spotters at the nets.
  5. Fallback: if rails slip, chock with tolvi on white only.
