Command Task-1 — Single Ditch, Two Subordinates — How I’d Brief

SSB Command Task and Progressive Group Task briefing illustration — a candidate briefing two subordinates beside a painted outdoor obstacle.

You command. 30 seconds to brief two people you named. One ditch, two planks, one rope.

Command Task · You + 2 subordinates you chose (mix: one strong, one quieter). · About 8 minutes including your brief

Obstacle

A 7-foot ditch. Far bank is 6 inches higher. White both sides. No mid supports. GTO stands two yards away and will not repeat the problem.

Colour reminders

  • Ditch interior red.
  • Banks white.

Helping material & load

  • Two planks (one slightly short)
  • One rope

Load: Small ammo-box dummy (must cross)

What the GTO is waiting for

You have just finished picking subordinates. Brief them in three parts: problem, plan, names-on-roles. Then stop talking and lead from the front.

60-second speak clock

Start the clock and brief out loud (or on paper). Do not type here.

A complete brief (for comparison)

Steal the structure — aim, resources, sequence, roles, colour, fallback — not these exact words on the ground.

  1. Problem: 7-ft red ditch, box must cross, two planks + rope, no red touch.
  2. Plan: I place the longer plank; A comes with me as advance; we guy the far end; B passes the box; I stay on the far bank as anchor; then B.
  3. Roles: A — with me first. B — box, then last person. I — first across and last to leave the far anchor.
  4. Rules: if a plank kisses red we reset without argument.
  5. Fallback: lash both planks as a sister beam if one flexes.
