Command Task-2 — Cantilever over Red — How I’d Brief

SSB Command Task and Progressive Group Task briefing illustration — a candidate briefing two subordinates beside a painted outdoor obstacle.

No far white within plank length. You must cantilever. Two subordinates, one rope.

Command Task · You + 2 subordinates · ~8 minutes

Obstacle

Start white slab. Red ground for 9 feet. Finish white is a small stump. Your longest plank is 6 feet. A blue post is within reach — people can hold it, material cannot rest on it.

Colour reminders

  • 9-ft red gap.
  • Blue post — hands only.
  • Finish stump white and small.

Helping material & load

  • 6-ft plank
  • 4-ft plank
  • Rope
  • Tolvi

Load: Rifle-shaped dummy (awkward length)

What the GTO is waiting for

Do not freeze. A 5-second look is composure; 20 seconds is panic. Write the brief you would spit out.

60-second speak clock

Start the clock and brief out loud (or on paper). Do not type here.

Idle

A complete brief (for comparison)

Steal the structure — aim, resources, sequence, roles, colour, fallback — not these exact words on the ground.

  1. Aim: cantilever from our white, catch the stump, then convert to a supported span.
  2. Resources: I am the counterweight with A; B receives on the stump; rope as guy; dummy last.
  3. Sequence: set fulcrum on our white, slide 6-ft, B crawls, lash, then dummy, then I cross.
  4. Roles: A counterweight, B receiver, I on the beam first.
  5. Fallback: if stump is too small, B sits astride and belts the plank with rope before the dummy moves.
