NDA Written Exam Pattern & Preparation Strategy (2026)
The UPSC National Defence Academy (NDA) examination is held twice a year (usually April and September cycles). Stage 1 is a written exam; Stage 2 is the SSB interview for candidates who clear the written cutoff. Paper pattern (typical)

- Paper I — Mathematics: 300 marks, 2½ hours, Class 12 level (calculus, algebra, trigonometry, statistics).
- Paper II — GAT (General Ability Test): 600 marks, 2½ hours — English + General Knowledge.
- GK spans Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography, Current Events.
- There is negative marking — accuracy matters as much as speed.
Preparation strategy
Start SSB psychology practice 3–4 months before expected SSB date even while preparing written.
