Jaisalmer Track — Heat Stroke & Collapsed Well — SSB GPE Practice

The map
Same idea as the printed sketch on the GTO table. Gold = pucca, dashed = kaccha, blue = water, pine clumps = village. Read kilometres before you divide the group.
- L — Broken 407
- D — Dune D
- W — Village well
- AT — Army track
- FC — Festival camp
The GTO’s narration
You are a group of persons as many as you are, travelling in a civilian 407 toward a desert festival camp when the axle cracks on the kaccha track. Temperature is 44°C. You have 20 litres of drinking water, ORS, a jack and tools that can only crib the axle, a tarp and two poles, and an HF radio that reaches the camp only from Dune D. One passenger is slurring and hot — suspected heat stroke. A child has fallen into the village well. The army track can take a message to the festival camp if you walk it. The camp expected you at 14:30. Water must be rationed. Now the time is 13:15 hrs. As brave young men/lady what will you do.
10 minutes — write your plan on paper
Start the clock, look at the map, write priorities, who goes where, and clock times. Nothing is typed on this page.
Idle
A complete GPE solution (for comparison)
This is one workable plan, not the only plan. The GTO wants a split group, life before duty, and no invented resources. Compare after you write.
Priority of problems
- 1. Life — heat casualty at the broken 407 (L).
- 2. Life — child in the village well (W).
- 3. Duty — radio from Dune D for a recovery vehicle (D).
- 4. Duty — do not block the army track; send a walker if radio fails (AT).
Distance and time (from the map)
- Lorry → Dune D: 1.5 km kaccha.
- Lorry → village well: 4 km kaccha.
- Well → festival camp: 5 km pucca.
- Lorry → army track: 6 km kaccha.
- Army track → camp: 4 km pucca.
What the group actually does
- Shade first: tarp over the heat casualty, ORS sips, cool cloths. Two candidates stay with him at the lorry. Do not walk him up the dune.
- Party A (3 + rope from tools/tarp lines) to the village well at once — talk to the child, do not jump in; use a lowered loop.
- Party B (1) climbs Dune D with the HF set, calls festival camp / army for a vehicle and water. Comes down after the call to save battery.
- Party C (2) crib the axle only enough to keep the 407 off the crown of the track. If radio fails, one walker uses the army track.
- Ration water: small sips, none wasted on the radiator.
Close: Heat stroke stays in shade. Well rescue is a small party with a line. Radio from the dune, not a desert wander. Camp is informed; you do not become a second casualty.
